| "If humans could use magic, no other species in this world would stand a chance at survival." Akes said with a frown. "With you as an exception, my experience is that humans are greedy prideful creatures, who enjoy nothing more than seeing things they deem to be lesser than themselves suffer."
He tilted his head back as she brushed his hair. It seemed he had seen the darker side of humanity. He'd seen whales-- strong and innocent-- pulled from the sea and slaughtered, tasted their blood in the water. He'd been nearly suffocated by the black water-- the oil-- humans spilled carelessly, and been tangled more than once in those sharp-as-wire nets of theirs. His own people had been forced to retreat to the cold darker waters to survive. | |

| My previously bright expression vanished, somberness now lining my usually soft features. His words had shattered the fairy tail world I imagined and instead replaced it with one of war and destruction--a more realistic view, to say the least.
He was right. Humans could not be privileged to use such a spiritual, powerful energy--the line between peace and destruction was much too fine.
"Maybe the amount of greediness among humans is what stripped them of ever being able to use such a thing in the first place..."
I loosened the last few knots in his hair and smiled in satisfaction.
"There you go, knot-free finally. I'm going to wait a few minutes before rinsing out the conditioner, so just sit tight for a sec, k?"
I turned to the sink, and as I washed the conditioner from fingers I mulled over Akes' words. They just didn't sit well with me. I wanted to prove to him that not all humans were bad--in fact, many were caring and compassionate.
"I'm guessing you haven't had very many friendly encounters with human then..." I brought up softly, absent-mindedly playing with the tiny soap suds between my thin fingers.

| 'You're the first direct encounter I've had. Aside from you I've only suffered second hand. oil spills, injuries from those motors-- lots of incidents involving those nets." he explained. "Strictly speaking we're not supposed to really interact with humans. I already told you what happened the last time.' he reminded her of Atlantis. | |
