Over the years, the legend of Jack frost had become somewhat of a childs fairy tail, rather than lore. Less and less people believed in the prince of ice, even less children knew of his name with each passing year. Though, regardless, the snow came seasonally, laying over the cities and villages a cold blanket of the white fluff- muffling the sounds of horns and masking the sounds of foot steps with easy for the ear crunches.

However, along with the beauty of the snow always came its hazards. Black ice coated roads tended to skew cars across traffic like toys. Icicles still sometimes fell and hurt the unsuspecting passer by below- and of course people who were un-weary often fell through thin ice.

One woman though, had caught the snow princes eye. Though he was typically but a ghost to humans, he could see them full well, and loved to watch them go about their business. Once in a great while, he would walk among them and enjoy their company... but never anything more. It hurt, though he had never before complained.

Each snowflake was drawn by his hand, and designed intricately, inspired by the humans lives. On more than one occasion- he had made an especially intricate design of frost on the woman's window. When she was small, he recalled often sending her extra snow to play and dance in.

When finally he strung up the nerve to ask, he was granted his wish to be with her. Or a chance at it.  Temples to the ice God had since been abandoned, and left the Ice Prince with only his basic responsibilities. the Mother Godess had decided he had earned this chance... But with a catch.

He would be allowed to be human from the second day of February until the first day of winter. In that time- he would live as a human. Be required to get a job, a home- and a wife, as well as a replacement for his current title as Prince of Ice. If he succeeded, he would be granted the time, for as long as he wished, to remain among the humans- age and progress with them. if he should die, he woudl return to being Jack frost, and his 'replacement' granted the title of lesser god. But should he fail- he would be forced to work with no days rest for the remainder of time.

Naturally- he jumped at the chance.

When she turned around, she was greeted with a heart drawn into the snow. No shoe prints or traces of anyone having walked over to draw it, and no one had made the sounds of crunching ice behind her while she took photos.

Jack looked down at her, sitting on a window sill, his cool blue eyes locked onto her face curiously. He had a little under a month before he would become human... In that time, he would set up his plan. Leave her little messages, secret notes and images.... Get her curiosity peeked. And as a human, he would help her figure it out.

A clever plan, and he was sure she would indeed be curious. He had asked his brothers advice on the situation, and they both seemed to agree this was the wisest choice of action.

He noticed the small screen on the back of the camera, grinning a bit at the blue silhouette in the snow scape she had yet to notice. She'd gotten a photo of jack frost. And without him intentionally allowing it too.

"Victoria!" a woman's voice called. One of her coworkers at the bakery, also just out of class.

The red head waved with a smile, attempting to get the photo-bugs attention.

Jack grinned, knocking his fist against the wall of the school.

It sucessfully knocked the snow from the roof onto the ground, covering the heart.

The redhead hurried over, kicking up a small amound of snow behind her as she came. "Hm? What am I looking at?" she asked. The snow 'floop'ed down just as she arived.

Jack smiled a bit, feeling triumphant. That little design had been for Victoria, not this redhead. And he was pleased to know she haddn't seen it.

With a sigh, he slipped off the windows edge and walked past the girls, a cool breeze sweeping past them in his wake. He had other things to do.... Until he became man, he would have to continue his job.

Aubrey walked over to Victoria blinking. "So." she said. "If you're singing, we wont have anyone to take photos...." she said, politely offering the girl an out with a smile. "You have any plans this weekened?" she asked leaning on the counter, her tray against one hip. "Mark and I are thinking of headed up to Wistler for go skiing. Wanna come?"

Before she got an answer, the door to the cafe opened, a group of loud and apparently happy high schoolers bubbling into the shop for a quick warm up on their ways home. The typical afternoon crowd.

Aubrey sighed and looked to Victoria. "Lemme know." she said, walking off to greet the guests.

A couple of the High schoolers laughed at their friends.

"Vicky- stop teasing the children." an amused mans voice came. He had slipped into the shop when the teenagers had. Vincent Rastrelli. A tall Italian student in her classes. He didn't exactly make an attempt to keep the fact that he liked her hidden either.

As the group of teens got their real orders in and shuffled out of the way, Vincent aproached the counter with a grin. "Cute as ever in the apron." he charmed, Espresso please." he added as if an after thought.

Outside, Jack peered in through the window, watching everyone inside move around and laugh. his hands against the glass plane created a thin layer of frost, slowly stretching to cover its length despite the heater inside.

"Only the nice ones." Vincent said, handing her the cash. He tossed her a would-be charming grin. "Are you always this forward with the men you like?" he challenged.

A rather hefty breeze blew the heavy glass door open out of an elderly woman's hand. The trucks passing by outside threw up slush as they passed, some how bypassing the woman and covering the Vincent's back in the dirty half melted ice.

The teenagers from before roared with laughter as the college student let out a startled and aggravated cry, dropping his espresso.

Jack watched the situation and frowned to himself. He wouldn't be human permanently for a couple of weeks... That didn't mean he couldn't take his usual form to walk among them...

That night it had begun to flurry just as the Karaoke machine was being set up. The weather forecast predicted a blizzard in the next few days, and with a foot of snow already on the ground, it would potentially make for record breaking amounts.

Only a small crowd of people had shown for the event. Included in the small gathering was a man who had ordered nothing but some hot water with lemon.

Vincent had hung around, tough the high schoolers had left the small coffee shop. It seemed mostly a few people trying to get discovers had shown up, with the exception of three of four guest who just so happened to be interested in the idea of karaoke night with nothing better to do. The lemon water man fell into that category, with short blond hair and frosty blue eyes.

He sat by himself at a small table, watching them set up with mild interest, sipping his drink next to the window-- currently covered in a thick layer of frost.

"Look's like quite the turn out after all, huh lady?"

Aubry had arrived for the show with a smile on her face and brown bag in one hand. "Gotcha dinner." she informed her friend, handing it off before waving to the camcorder.

Behind her with her boyfriend. A tall quiet boy had a snack in the kitchen. He waved awkwardly at the camera as well, already busying himself by looking for an open table to sit out. The only place seemed to be the booth with the man and his hot water.

"We'll go see if that guy'll share his booth with us. Lemme know if you need a hand, Tor." Aubry smiled at her friend, staying out of the cameras view before slipping off.

When the band finished, the crowd still cheered, basking in the afterglow of the performance. Whoever got on stage, if anyone, would likely have a hell of a time even comparing to the brilliant display.

" 'Scuse me."

Aubrey blinked, looking to the blond she was sitting next to. "Leaving?" she asked, getting up to let the man out of the booth.

"Not at all." the man smiled. "I was signed up to sing after them."

"Pff... Good luck then." she said, pushing her way through the crowd. "Tor, take a break, hun. Go eat." she encouraged her friend. "The next guy up isn't gonna be any where near as impressive."

The blond looked over the crowd for a moment before taking a deep slow breath. Silence fell as the crowd settled down to watch.

As the man opened his icy eyes, they locked onto Tori."This is my December. This is my time of the year. This is my December. This is all so clear." His voice rang out like a bell. It was crisp, clear, haunting. A couple of people murmured among the crowd, clearly having thought no one would be able to out stage the last performance. It seemed the opening few lines had rocked that assumption.

"This is my December. This is my snow covered home. This is my December. This is me alone, and I~ and I~ and I~ and I~ and I'd give it all away." He continued on with the song, closing his eyes as he sand, as though to read the lyrics off a page inside his head. "Just to have somewhere to go to. Give it all away, to have someone to come home to. This is my December. These are my snow covered dreams. This is my pretending, this is all I need!"

Aubrey blinked, stunned and nudged her boyfriend. "Are you hearing this?" she bawked.

"And I~ Just wish that I didn't feel Like there was Something I missed." The blond spoke just over a whisper, choosing to make known this part of the chorus as opposed to repeating 'and I' for the second time around. "Take back all The things that I said To make you feel like that. Just wish that I didn't feel Like there was Something I missed. And I~ " He opened his eyes again, allowing them to scan over the crowd as he shifted.

Outside the snow fell lightly, muffling his song form reaching the passer-bys out side the window. The eerie blue glow of the snow shadow cast up on him, giving the blond man a cold other worldly look to him as he finished off the song.

The blond man blinked, his light blue eyes trailing down to the camera then back up to Tori's face. "I'm Jack." he said simply, offering her a slight smile. It seemed too impish for his well sculpted face, though it seemed to fit him so perfectly at the same time.

A small digital watch on his wrist began to beep.

"I've got to get going--" he said apologetically, pressing a button to turn the alarm off "--So, sorry to cut our meeting short, Tori, but I'll be around more next week." he promised, offering her a dazzling smile. Even from where Aubrey sat she got the distinct impression that it was something the man very rarely shared.

Her phone buzzed with a message. 'We hit the road tomorrow at 5. You in for sure?' accompanied with Audrey's typical signature '~Love, Pray, and Read'.

Jack watched her curiously from his perch. He had been sitting in a tree when she arrived in the park.

Something seemed to be bothering her, and what was more, he didn't notice the black camera she usually had with her. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what upset her. Something must have happened to her little machine.

He slipped out of his seat, landing lightly on the snow beside her, trailing down a couple of icicles in his wake. At the moment he would look like a trick of the light at most.

"So this is the woman you're abandoning your family for?" a voice chided from above.

Jack looked up and frowned. "I'm not abandoning anyone." he stated, meeting the eyes of a familiar dark haired woman. One of the Goddesses of Death. Like life, there were a collection of minor Gods and Goddesses who contributed to the patronage, though they seemed to share a sort of mental bond with one another inside the group.

The Goddess frowned, his cool gray eyes moving over to Tori with distant. "Oh really..."

Jack ignored the minor goddess, instead sitting beside the human he had become infatuated with.

"If you fail, you'll never be able to enjoy rest again. You'll long for my company." the Goddess warned.

"I know." Jack said simply. "It's just more of a reason not to fail." he shrugged, moving Tori's hair out of her face. It left a cool tingling over he skin.

The gray eyed Goddess stared for a moment before vanishing.
