World War Two AU- TWIST

Madeline stepped forward as the woman grabbed her arm and tugged her forward. She was rough, but not nearly as much as she could have been. Mik had never before taken a pet and no one was quite certain how he would want them dealt with. Some wanted harsher measure, even torture when they weren’t around. Some demanded their pets treated well and pampered. It all depended on the soldier.

So the woman, named Helga, stripped her down in front of everyone and put her in new clothes, ones that the other prisoners wore but were in much better shape. She then threw a old jacket at her, the jacket itself belonging to an old comrade that had been promoted. Madeline had always been pretty though a bit creepy, though now she looked like she was five years younger than she actually was.

A bowl of porridge was put in front of her and she began to eat mechanically, the other girls looking at her with pity.

The Gypsie woman moved over to sit with her as she ate, giving the Nazi woman a look that dared her to tell her not to. She tended to scare the other woman with her 'visions' and yet her 'owner' demanded she be treated with the utmost respect.

"May I see your palm?" she asked, her voice carrying a thick Arabian accent.

Madeline looked up from her food, her expression blank as she studied the gypsy. The woman seemed a little taken aback by her eyes much like everyone else was but Madeline nodded none the less. She held out her hand, the pale skin looking beautiful in the dim light with her slender fingers.

The soldier watched with trepidation, not wanting any of that nonsense under her watch. She was one of those that whole heartedly agreed with Hitlers propaganda. Such things were of hell and needed to be stamped out.

"I see..." the woman said tracing a delicate finger over the lines in her hand. " You match him rather well...." she said peering into the girls porcelain palm. "This line means you'll have a very long life... and see how it breaks? Right here..." she pointed. "You're life is about to change. And this line.... there's an encounter in your future that will alter your views dramatically..."

the woman moved onto her fingers looking them over before clicking her tongue.

Madeline looked at her hand curiously, wondering what the woman could possibly be talking about. Much like his? Who was the he she was referring to? Again she held her questions in check, not sure if she should speak. Her voice had always been so unsettling for people.

The woman finally let go of her hand as if she had been burned, her eyes wide in something akin to fear.

“You’re just like him.” She muttered.

“Like who?” Madeline finally asked, her voice soft though it still made the gypsy jump in her chair.

"The sergeant." she said lowly. "You're a shadow child." she said narrowing her eyes.

Madeline’s widened. That was the second time today that someone had said she wasn’t human and she was getting quiet tired of it. Enough had happened today. She had lost the only thing she knew as real, and had just come to terms with the fact she was a marked girl, set to die horrifically as cattle. Now she was being told she wasn’t going to die, that she much more than human. Did she believe? No.

“You’re wrong.” She whispered, not sure how much she believed it herself.

The Gypsie woman spit into her hand, closing her fingers around it. "Best wishes child."

"That's enough." one of the other women spoke up. "You're saten worship is going to scare her!"

It was a jewish woman, maybe 23 years old who had come to the porcelain girls defense.

Madeline just stood instead of getting in the middle of this, keeping her eyes downcast as she went to the soldier who was watching over them.

“I don’t want to stay here.” She said simply, not caring where else they put her, as long as it was away from these desperate women and their clinging grasp on life. She saw them for what they were. Selling themselves to survive, no matter what they were put through. To Madeline, death would always be preferable to servitude.

"Whenyou find someone who does lemme know. She can have my place." a black woman commented, sitting on a bed with a frown.

And so began the three week stay, Madeline woudl endure with these women.

And so Madeline sighed before sitting down, hanging her head to wait it out.

The three weeks had passed without too much incident for the young girl. Another officer at one point took a liking to her, had wanted to “borrow” her. Something had happened to him though, what she wasn’t quite sure of. She hadn’t seen Mik however since that very first day, though she’d tried to look for him. If she hadn’t been in that barracks watched women leave and come back looking brutalized she wouldn’t have believed that she was anywhere different than the other barracks. By the third week she started to wonder if maybe this was the normal place, and she had been lied to all along.

The one thing she couldn’t let go of however, was the day of her birthday. As she lay in her bunk watching the ceiling, she counted down the moments to midnight, the mark of her 16th birthday. Women were being dragged out and taken in as was the norm, though she remained watching the clock that stood above the door. Only five minutes now.

The door opened, this time not by one of the woman. There stood Mik, the tall blond man who had put her into that hole for three weeks.

"Madeline." he said in a heavy german accent. "Come with me."

And so Madeline sighed before sitting down, hanging her head to wait it out.

She turned her head slowly, not truly believing what she was seeing with her own eyes. Three weeks and no hide or tail of him. Sometimes she thought she sensed his presence, watching her, but she never actually saw him. There he was, yet again.

Madeline sat up and swung her legs over, her clothes the same that she’d been given that first day. She looked terribly, she knew that. She once shiny brown hair was dirty and lank, her face covered in dirt. The only thing that remained of her doll like appearance was those blue eyes of her, still wide and brilliant, and still unsettling.

She walked over to him as stately as she could, the large clothes hiding the fact she’d lost weight and was actually much weaker then she wanted to let on. For the rest of the women the food they had been given was enough, but for some reason it wasn’t for Madeline, and for the last few days she hadn’t even been able to force himself to eat.

"Come on." he coaxed, placing his hand on her shoulder, guiding her out of the room. He sort of herded her along into the private room he had first had her in, the windows all closed already.

On the small table was a tin coffee pot, steaming and full, along with a cup of milk. Better still though was the presence of a small bit of cake, iced in white coating with no candle on it.

"Have a seat." he said, his phony accent gone as he closed the door behind them. "You look horrible."

Madeline looked up at him, her eyes watching him carefully. If it was possible she had retreated even farther into herself, her eyes taking on an even more glazed appearance than should have been humanly possible.

“What will happen?” She asked, her voice small and timid.

He shrugged sitting down on a chair of his own. "Depends on what type of devil you are, if you are one at all." he said. "When I turned 16 it was the most pain I've ever been in." he tapping a nail on one of his horns. "These things hurt coming out."

Madeline nodded, listening as the time ticked slowly by. Only a minute left until midnight. A moment of panic struck her as she watched the time slowly slip by.

“You’ll keep your promise?” She said quickly, her panic starting to set in.

"Don't worry, I'll kill you if you disappoint me." he grinned, having since dropped his disguise.

Madeline nodded, and relaxed into her chair. She watched the clock as the time slowly ticked by. Thirty seconds now. She fidgeted in her seat. Twenty seconds. Her blue eyes darted to him and then back to the clock. Ten seconds. She clasped her hands together, going stiff. Three. Two. One. Midnight.

For a moment nothing happened and Madeline let out the breath she had been holding. So she really was human. Then suddenly a blinding pain started to build in her back, a pain that knocked her from her chair. She moaned in pain, holding herself tightly, feeling like she was being ripped apart. Her long brown hair elongated turning a blinding white color. Suddenly she heard a ripping sound as her clothes split down the seem, leaving her barely covered.

She felt it building inside her, a scream she did her best to hold back. But some things were simply too much, and as she screamed she felt like her back was being ripped wide open and two silky black wings sprouted forward out from her shoulder blades. Blood ran down her black in rivelets as her pale skin shuddered. She seemed taller, older, and definitely not a girl anymore if the scarce pieces of cloth covering her skin had anything to say about it. Her hair was longer and a blinding white color. In fact, the only thing that was the same about the girl Madeline, was her brilliantly blue eyes that were still exactly as before.

Mik watched her with interest, reaching behind him to grab a towel. He stood up and knelt down next to her, gently wiping up the blood.
"So." he said,his voice as light as air. "I see you believe me now." he tisked, his fingertips glowing a dim golden color. where he touched, the pain faded, leaving a pleasant tingle in his wake. "Black wings and white hair, looks like I found myself some royal blood."

Madeline couldn’t even bring herself to speak, more tired than she’d ever felt before in her life. He had been right, all along he’s been right. Her mind was screaming at her. Everything in her life was a lie. Everything she knew was gone. Her family was a lie. Her childhood.

“Who am I?” She whispered, holding the shreds of clothing to her body for some semblance of decency.

"As of this moment? You're in the charge of General DeLeath." he said simply. "Hm... Those wing's wont be easy to hide..." he mused pulling his coat off before draping it over her shoulders. "I suggest picking a name that suits you." he said standing up. She coudl feel the power that seemed to ripple off of him as he reapplied his disguise with a snap. "I'll be right back... You need something to actually wear."

She grabbed him then, grabbed his shirt with a grip that was much stronger than anyone could expect from someone so petite.

“Don’t go.” She said quietly, her voice rippling however with the strength of a command. Already her powers were forming inside her little body, now that her exterior matched what she was supposed to look like. She was of the royal line alright, her natural power over him palpable in the room. Yet, she was young and that command was immediately broken when she added, “Please.”

She didn’t want to admit it but she was afraid. Afraid something else was going to happen. Afraid that this was a sick dream. Afraid the pain would start again. But above all else, afraid someone else would discover her. Now that she knew what she was, that she was something much more than she had ever believed, she didn’t want to die. She’d grown up in a Jewish family all her life. She knew the punishment for what she had become.

He stopped and looked back at her, then down at her hands before frowning. "... You know." he said, trying to determine what she was thinking. "Being a Devil, does not make you a demon." he said.

He placed his hand on her head though and offered a smile of encouragement. "But if you would rather I stay for a while until you adjust, I will." he promised.

“I’m evil aren’t I?” She asked quietly, her voice barely more than a whisper. “All those things I’ve always been told. They were all right. They had a reason to fear me.”

She wasn’t really asking him, more talking to herself, trying to come to terms with what was happening. Who was she? Could she even call herself Madeline anymore?

“I don’t know who I am anymore.”
