Jacob smirked and walked out the door."that was troublesome he sighed as he grabbed his coat from his desk and headed. as he walked down the sidewalk, he couldnt help but think about the girl who worked at the ball and chain."maybe she knows somethin I dont...if she does..." he gave himself a headache thinking about this case."it doent seem right...it just doesnt add up." he then walked in the small cafe and looked around. he noticed a group of gothic kids sitting at a table. he ordered a coffee and sat on a table not far from them."maybe I can listen in' he tought to himself

Sitting around the table, the kids were nervous. Not about being out with so many people, or even being in direct sunlight as some kids were. They actually reveled in the sunlight as it spelled safety for them.

“Did you talk to Mara?” The girl asked, biting her lip.

The boy shook his head sadly, and when the girl asked about nothing nameless kid, he said no lowly.

“Nobody’s heard from either of them since that night at the club.”

“I don’t think we should go there anymore.” The girl said, turning away from her companion. The others looked away from him too, as if he was bad news.

“Look I don’t think that place is dangerous okay.”

“The only reason you want to be there is cause of that creepy girl!” She said, her face livid under the pale make-up and dark eyeliner.

“She’s a freak okay! She doesn’t even look old enough to work at a bar and there she is. Ever since she started working there people have started disappearing! You cant tell me that this isn’t all connected.”

“I don’t think it is. I think she’s just getting the bad rap.”

“then die on your own Conan.” The girl said, bitter disappointment tracing every word. With those words the rest of the group got up with her and left, leaving the boy named Conan to sit alone.

jacob sat by the kid at the table, he smiled and rested his feet."problem with the girls?" he asked freindly

Conan looked over at the strange guy, his eyes downcast and untrusting. Who the hell was this dude?

“No.” He mumbled, looking away from Jacob. Did he overhear what everyone was saying? He really hoped this guy didn’t believe that hogwash.

“Look, you’re not some cop right?” He asked, his eyes full of worry. “Cause what they said is just suspicious bullshit.”

Jacob looked at the kid and shook."not really...I'm a...private investigator...look I wont tell anythin to the police...as a matter of fact, I left the force, because of their brutish ways...but..could you tell me anythin about this girl, where she would hangout in the day, her freinds, her school, anythin, just write it on this." he got out the photo of the girl, and a notepad with pen."you can trust me.." he said honestly

“Mara?”

Looking at the photo, his eyes filled briefly with tears before he quickly brushed them away.

“I can’t write this shit down. But, I’ll tell you. Mara didn’t go to school; she dropped out like a lot of us did. The group I was with, all of us were friends. We’ve been trying to find her ever since she disappeared. Trina, that girl that was just talking to me, she was in love with Mara you know. She’s really beat up about this. She really thinks that this girl at the Ball and Chain did something to her. Cause we don’t usually hang out during the day. It’s too bright and, well, we don’t really fit in with everybody. So we’d go to the Ball and Chain at night and hang out.”

Conan paused for a second, holding the photo in his hand. He internally debated whether to tell this guy anything else, wondered about whether he was telling the truth or not about who he was. But, his wish to see his friend again was stronger than whatever force stilled his tongue and he began again.

“Trina and the others, well, they think there’s something going down at that club. Something big. Cause people keep randomly disappearing and no one knows where they’re going. I’m pretty sure that whatever happened to Mara, you’ll find the answers there.”

he nodded, taking the notepad and writing the stuff down."thanks kid' he said as he got up. he then turned around he had an instinct this kid needed somethin more."listen to me...I'll give you my number...I play a few instruments....if you want when I've got some free time...I could teach you to play...or if you want I could teach other things...self defence, private investigation...just give me a call." he said handing over a card with his number, and address."take care kid" he said as he exited the cafe. placing his notepad into his pocket and hands."Maybe I should visit eve...she works in the hospital." he walk down the road, contemplating the recent conversation."this just gets weirder everytime" he sighed.

as an hour passed he walked through the park, entering the hospital."can I see Eve please?" he asked at the reception."she is currently dealing with a patient..wait here and I will tell her you want to see her" the receptionist walked off. Jacob sat down in the waiting room, getting a magazine from the pile, and reading it

((Yes I can. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I’ve got some pretty bad writers block right now, but I’ve decided to continue through it, so I apologize if the next few posts suck. ))

Eve finished up with her patient, giving her signature stating that the elderly man was okay to go home with plenty of bed rest. She sighed, running her hand through her hair. It had been a long day so far, and she couldn’t stop worrying about Jacob. His profession always put her on edge, but she had never been as scared as she was now. She couldn’t figure out why, all she knew was that when this case was over she would be a very happy woman.

When the nurse told her she had a visitor Eve immediately knew who it was. The only person that ever visited her at work was Jacob, and if was here…

Her mind went into overdrive as anxiety seized her. She quickly put away her files on her recent patient and hurried to the waiting room. When she saw him sitting down, seemingly nothing wrong with him, she sighed in relief.

“Hey Jake. Whats up?”

he smiled, throwing the magazine to the side and hugging her gently, kissing her on the cheek." just thought I'd drop by...you would kill me if I didnt" he laughed nervously."I should tell her...but she will flip if I do." he thought to himself."so...lot of work today?" he asked as Eve saw right through his guise."just tell me please" she said worryingly as Jacob sighed."okay...this case...I got some info that somethin is gonna happen tonight...I might be late..but I'll make it up to you...this friday is our 2 year anniversary...I've got a big surprise fo you" he said trying to sway her from wanting to know about the info

Eve wasn’t fooled by his promises of making it up to her.

“Whats going on?” She asked, worry lacing every word as she wrung her hands together anxiously. Jacob was going to be in danger, that much she already knew, how much danger was yet to be seen.

“Its about that missing girl isn’t it?”

he sighed and held her hand."I got some leads...a suspect...she might be hard to...errr..restrained...look sweetie, I dont want to argue with you again about this..this is my first case working with the specialist unit...I cant screw this up" he replied as he looked into her eyes." I've got friday off...I will make it up to you...I promise" he said

Eve sighed, nodding at Jacob in acceptance. He needed to do well on this case and she knew that. Hell, just a few days ago when he had announced his promotion she’d been ecstatic because she knew how important this was to him. Now he was doing what he’d always wanted to. Truly making a difference in the world that they both knew could be so very cruel.

Deciding that the last thing he needed before doing whatever dangerous thing he needed to do, she smiled and lightly smacked his arm.

“You make sure you come home to me Jacob, or I’ll be really mad.” She laughed lightly, though they both knew that an undercurrent or true concern was still there.

he smiled, as he kissed her."thank you for understanding...well its getting late...I'll see you at home sweetie" he said as he hugged her once more and left the hospital. he kept on thinking about the infomation that he had just got, could the girl have kidnapped them?. it played countless times in his head, almost giving him a headache."I'll just hang around the back door..." he thought to himself, as he carried on his to the ball and chain

Alice rose just as the sun set, its final life giving rays giving way to the darkness that was her world. It was time to return to the Ball and Chain, to begin her night time ways. How much longer she planned to stay at the club she wasn’t sure. She was a migratory creature by nature, never staying in one place long so she could avoid suspicion. A full scale vampire hunt had not taken place since the Salem Witch trials, and the community as a whole did not want such a thing to occur again. Not that Alice had spoken to another vampire in years.

They tended to avoid each other as a general rule. Most vampires were too young to turn off the frenzied bloodlust that took over any time they fed. Alice was old enough now to not only turn it off, but to stop feeding if the need arose, a feat that showed her age. But even the elder vampires were protective of their territories. Too many vampires in one place made it very difficult to hunt in secrecy.

This city had been Alice’s for many years, even when she was not in it herself. Her territory was vast, as her power was strong. Vampires that walked here knew it to be hers and if she was there they left quickly without feeding, and if she was not in the city, they fed maybe once or twice before leaving.

She had been here now for quite a few years, a blink of an eye for vampires but a long time for humans. She moved from club to club in the city, never staying where the humans that had seen her before would frequent. Anyone that got suspicious, she took them out.

Now, it was a new night, and she would soon be on the prowl again. Another plus of her age was that she did not need to feed every night, and the two boys blood she gorged on the night before still raced through her dead veins giving her strength and life. When she got to the back door of the Ball and Chain she was surprised to find Jacob standing there, his raw energy coursing through the air. She could tell he was nervous, concerned, but determined to follow through on whatever action he had decided.

Once again, that strange feeling overtook her. And she watched him not with the eyes of a hunter, but with a calculating gaze that would put even the strongest men on edge.

Jacob freaked out slightly."damn..those eyes...just like...like..him...she must know more than she lets on" he rushed forward, pushing aside any feelings and emotions that stopped, he grabbed her arm gently."I need to talk to you miss...its about...your brothers...they were found dead this morning...I will need an alibi from you...since your the last person to see them..." he retorted, trying not to sund nervous."what the hell..it feels like...this is weird..." he thought to himself. his mind was a racket, this girl reminded him of how the butcher would follow. it seemed like she was given off a certain dark scent, tainted with somethin old and powerful, this stifled Jacob. he gagged slightly a couple of times but remained with his composure." that...was near identical to the butcher" he said, primal fear made him let go of her arm."if I can get just a few words, then I will be on my way" he said, not making eye contact

Alice normally would have laughed at Jacob, calling his actions silly and unnecessary. Putting her prey at ease before she annihilated them. With Jacob she only smiled slightly, her red eyes turning to look at him. He wouldn’t meet her eyes, showing his unease. She really couldn’t blame him as she wasn’t trying to make this easy on him.

“My brothers?” She said, her voice lifting with the question. It took her a moment to remember the boys she had killed the night before, bleeding them dry before ripping them to shreds.

“They were not truly my brothers.” she said darkly, her voice containing a menace in it she always kept hidden around humans. “No one alive can claim that title.”

Realizing she was probably scaring him, which was not something she particularly wanted to do at this point, she smiled again and deliberately made her voice lighter and less cruel.

“Asking an alibi of me is of course not going to work sir. I have no one to confirm it. As to what possibly happened to them I cannot say. I left them in an alley. After they gave me the reward for saving them from you of course.”

he shook his head, his hand started to shake vigorously."damn it! not now!" he quickly reached into his pocket and took a box of pills. his hand s still shook, he popped the lid and took three pils and placed the lid back. he straightened himself up. he looked at her suspicously."what are you trying to say" he asked, alot calmer, his eyes met hers but he quickly looked away." just tell me if you saw anythin suspicous as you left...thats all. he his voice was softer and not was twitchly as before

Alice cocked her head to the side, her eyes watching Jacob intently.

“Its simple. I got them away from you before they got more beaten up. And they repaid my kindness. Its that simply. Like I said before. I left them in that alley.”

She smiled again, before touching his arm lightly. “Are you alright Jacob? Perhaps I can help you?”

he sighed and shook his head."its nothin...I've had problems...for a long time now...its really nothin."he shooks his again and looked away, getting up."I've heard that some girls beleive you to be the prime suspect of the dissapearences as of late...be careful.." he said as he placed the pills into his pocket."I'll just wait untill she finishes her shift..."I'll follow her..." he thought to himself."

Alice smiled slightly at his back handed concern. She knew what he was really trying to say. ‘I’m on to you, and if you don’t tread lightly I’ll find what I’m looking for.’ She found it almost endearing in a way, as he tried to control the spasms running through his body while trying to still look intimidating to her. For any other girl, with her small stature and child-like appearance, his attempts would have probably worked.

She reached out her hand again and lightly touched his face before disappearing into the darkness of the club. Alice knew full well the reactions that her victims, hell just regular humans, had to her touch. It was seductive at a primal level, and called to the nature of every person no matter how high they held themselves. Men and women both could not resist her sirens call no matter how much they wished they could. However, Alice did not place her spell on Jacob. Merely made it impossible for him to forget her in the next few hours. She could tell he would want to follow her, having not gotten the information he sought. That’s how police worked.

Now though, he would follow her with a more dogged step, more determination and not because his desire for information. That would not be the desire at all.

Jacob felt uneasy, how she acted right now, what she meant by saying"no one alive can claim that title" something didnt gell right with him. he felt this instinct to follow her, both on a investigator level, and something. he remembered the last case he was on, something like this happened to him, though he did not like to remember that at all, as the case was more personal to him. he sighed, the pills finally kicked in, and he didnt fell lke he was losing his mind." he looked at the girl."Well..I'll see you some over time...and dont get into any trouble' he laughed slightly, as he begun to move around the other side of the building

((Omg its been forever since I posted here. Lol well here ya go!))

Alice worked her shift as always, keeping a benign smile on her face and her eyes soft so the club goers were never afraid of her. They found her so cute and sprightly that they usually made a point of visiting her end of the bar over the other bartenders.

Tonight Alice was distracted by thoughts of the nosy detective who so desperately wanted to catch the person responsible for the missing kids, and the mutilated bodies. She could see in his expression and demeanor, he felt on some instinctive level a fear of her. Felt that she was somehow involved, and of course he was right. He was on the right track and hadn’t quite realized that his perp was the pixie like girl at the bar.
