Subject: Love You To Death {Mature, Private} Thu Sep 17, 2009 11:35 pm

John was feeling a bit...well, irritated. Very much so. "Oh, bloody hell! No! I'm trying to eat, so bugger off!" He watched the man walk away, obviously pissed. Then John looked around, and sighed. He was being stared at. Surely they saw him as an insane Brit yelling at nothing in a restaurant. Then again, they couldn't see the man like he could. THEY couldn't see spirits. Usually, he could ignore them or be more discreet in helping them. But when they wanted something selfish or stupid, and were being stubborn as hell...

He shook his head and threw money on the table when he saw the waiter coming over with THAT look on his face. The 'get the hell out' look. Well, he could always eat somewhere else. He stepped outside, and bumped into by a man. Who apparently, was in a very bad mood. So he shoved John. Hard. "Watch where you're going, asshole!"

John grabbed the man by the collar of his shirt, dragging him close. "Listen here, ya bloody wanker. I'm not in the best of moods, and I really don't have the patience to deal with some one who has a stick shoved up their arse. Enjoy your lunch." He then shoved the man into the restaurant. John made just one mistake here, though. He made the mistake of assuming the man would let things drop there.

Okay, perhaps he made two mistakes. Alright, three. The second was not noticing the man's bloodshot eyes and how fidgity he was. The third was not realizing the man had a knife on him. As he was laying on the sidewalk in a rapidly growing pool of his own blood, he couldn't help but laugh. He wasn't sure why, though. He just felt like laughing, even though it hurt. "Bloody Yanks..."

When John opened his eyes, he saw white. Either he was dead, or in the hospital. The pain from the stab wounds in his back and stomach, as well as the sound of someone talking, told him it was the latter. He wasn't really sure if he was relieved or disappointed. Well, he'd figure out which it was later. For now, he'd just wait to find out his situation.

Love You To Death {Mature, Private} Nurse-1-1-1

"You're lucky to be alive, you know," a female voice rang through the air, her tone
firm and formal. "I'm surprised you're awake already. You took at least five
stabbings, if not more."

A young woman with soft blue eyes and perfect pink lips stood a the side of his bed
with her arms crossed, her long white braid cascading over her shoulder and down
to the small of her back. Her expression was serious but not cold, and she waved her
finger at him in a scolding manner.

"You really should be more careful when picking fights, sir. This could have cost
you your life."

Yes, she knew about the incident in the restaurant the night before. The owner of
the restaurant had been entertaining important business related customers,
ones that were thinking about investing a great deal of money in the small,
family owned place. While the opportunity was not missed, the owner was still
furious at the bad first impression that had been made on them. He had
adamantly ranted and raved at the paramedics about how his restaurant was
not some low-class bar where people made a habit out of getting themselves
into trouble, but that his restaurant reflected him and his family, their values
and traditions. She'd heard all about it on her break from one of the
paramedics that has been there.

"How are you feeling now? We're still throughly checking your body to make
sure we didn't miss any other, less conspicuous wounds unlike your stomach
and chest. So far there's only one on your upper thigh."

John laughed in response to that, though winced as he did. "Yeah, well, it was the other git who picked the fight. I was just, unfortunately, in his path when he decided to be an arse. I didn't do anything that any other bloke wouldn't have done. As for me waking up, I've always been a quick healer. Bloody useful trait to have." He grinned a little, watching her. He seemed amused. "Well, you're a fit bird, aren't ya? I'm a bit gobsmacked, I'll tell ya."

He snickered a bit at that. "I don't really understand why there always seems to be nurses like you. Not exactly easy for a bloke to relax. Too worried about looking like a right git. I'm not worried though. I already know I don't have a chance, so why bother trying?" Apparently, he was rather blunt. Said what was on his mind and left it at that.

The woman stood silently watching as the man rambled on, though to her
slight embarrassment she could not understand a word that was coming
out of his mouth. So he was English then? That was certainly not a
common thing passing through this hospital.

"I'm sorry to say I'm not quite familiar with British expressions, but I
thank you for the gesture," she explained, and she placed her hand
gently on the only area of his chest that had received no blows.
"You need to rest, however, for whether or not you have the gift
of healing quickly you are no where near recovered. I'll bring
you a fresh blanket as I noticed there are some blood stains on
this one."

Her azure orbs flickered over to the pillow he rested on, noticing
there were some stains upon it as well. How did blood get all the
way up there?

"As for your pillow, I cannot replace it at the moment. If you move
or sit up at all your wounds will open up again, and all the hard work
I've put into your recovery will be for nothing," she added, the
expression on her face stern. She needn't tell him not to fidget.

He was grinning even more. "Ah, well, I won't hold that against ya, cause you're a Yank. I'm sure you know that means American. Well, I'll explain. A git is an idiot. A bloke is a man. A fit bird is an attractive woman." He smirked a bit. "I was saying that I found it funny that nurses seem to be very attractive women, but I'm not worried cause I know I don't have a chance with you."

He chuckled softly, trying to restrain his laughter so he didn't hurt himself. "I'll try and edit the way I speak so you can understand it...but no promises. You might want to brush up on British expressions."

An immediate blush passed the woman's face, and she couldn't help but
cast her navy pools downward and away from the man's amused expression.
Such words! She silently chastised herself for being so unprofessional,
and once she summoned the courage to lift her eyes she soon found
her feelings of bravery had left just as quickly as they came.

"Uhm, I'll go get you that fresh blanket," she managed to get out, and
she nodded in head in momentary farewell before scurrying through the
room door and out of sight.

"I can't believe the way I acted in there!" she brought her palm to
her forehead, letting out a hopeless sigh. "There shall be no more
nonsense like that. Why did I allow myself to get so worked up in the
first place?"

A small frown passed her lips as she entered the supply room, easily
reaching to the shelf that held the numerous fresh, white blankets.
"Well, I suppose it is because he is rather attractive, even with
his wounds and all, but it doesn't matter! Unprofessional behavior again,"
she bit her lip, though she couldn't help but let her thoughts drift back
to when she had previously addressed his wounds. He was very well
built, for an Englishman. Weren't Englishmen supposed to be skinny?
She had no clue. As she had said before, British patients were not
common in the hospital she worked in.

After she left the room, he smirked a bit. It was nice to know he could have that strong and effect. He wasn't aware she was the one who had dressed his wounds though. Had he known, he would have blushed a bit as well. For now, he'd just wait for her to get back. Hell, he'd even apologize for embarrassing her. He was a blunt person, it's just how he was, but he didn't want to upset people in any way.

"Alright, let's see if I can replace this quickly. It's rather cold in here and I'd
much prefer you didn't catch a cold. It would make my job easier, at least,"
she joked as she entered the room carrying a soft white blanket.

Her eyes lowered to the bandages around his stomach and chest and she
frowned slightly, noticing they, too, were stained with blood. His wounds
were indeed deep, so it was no surprise to her that they were still slowly
bleeding. As long as he didn't move too much they would soon close up
for good and the healing process would begin. Until then, however,
he needed to be careful about fidgeting.

"On second thought, I'm going to have to change the bandages on your
wounds again so the don't get infected. There shouldn't be blood seeping
through." She walked over and removed the old, stained blanket and
rapidly covered him with the new, warmer one, then backed up and
made her way toward the door again.

"I'll go throw this in with the laundry, but I'll wait until this place heats up
a bit before I return with clean bandages. I'll find someone to turn the
heat up, okay Is there anything else I can get you?"

He shook his head softly, letting her know he didn't need anything, watching her. He knew why he was bleeding so much. His body was already healing itself, from the inside out. In a way, it was pushing the blood, the 'bad' blood, up and out of his body. He'd be fully healed much faster than a normal person would. Faster than a human would, honestly. Then again, he wasn't really human. He was a 'border-race'. Neither human nor inhuman. Or, if you wanted to put it a different way, a human with powers. Depended on how you wnated to put it.

She made her way to the front of the room and paused in the doorway,
gazing at him for a moment. He had gotten awfully quiet all of a sudden...
Shrugging it off, she turned on her heel and disappeared from sight, her
footsteps growing faint as she continued further and further down the
hallway.

"He'll be here for a few days, if not longer," she thought to herself
as she approached the laundry room, tossing the soiled blanket atop
a pile of other bed linens that needing washing. "What was his
name again? I think the file said Fawkes...Seeing as I'll be caring for
him until he recovers, I should at least learn his name.""

Shivering slightly, she crossed her arms in front of her chest, her
eyes scanning for any maintenance crew members she could ask
to turn up the heat. Why was it so chilly in the hospital today?
It was an unhealthy temperature for the patients, and it was
definitely uncomfortable for the staff.

"Where can I find someone to turn this blasted heat up??
I'm freezing," she frowned, but her face lit up as she
spotted someone turning just around the corner in one of
the maintenance uniforms.

"Oh! Excuse me!" she called out, breaking out into a light jog in
an attempt to catch up with the man. She did blush, however,
at the look the man shot her for almost bumping into him.

"Oh, I'm sorry," she blurted out, obviously flustered. "But,
could you be so kind as to turn the heat up? I need to
rebandage a patient of mine, and it is much too chilly
in here to remove him from his dress otherwise," she explained.

The worker, who had looked startled at first by her forceful
approach, now laughed in a friendly manner.
"Oh sure, ma'am. No problem, just leave it to me," he smiled
in response, tipping his hat to her and causing her tense body to
relax out of relief.

"Oh good, thank you so much," she smiled, bowing gratefully.
"I very much appreciate it. Oh, and I'm sorry about almost
bumping into you," she blushed, then turned on her heel
and gazed at him over her shoulder. "Take care! And if you
could, could you try to maintain the hospital temperature at
a comfortable level? Thank you very much!" she called out,
scurrying away and hurrying to the hospital room once again.

While she was gone, John contented himself with watching the ceiling, trying not to imagine anything...improper involving his nurse, and pretending he couldn't see the ghost that had wandered into the room. If he let it know he could see it, it would immediately start talking to him and try to get things from him. They always did. Considering how much blood the ghost was covered in and the look on it's face, he could only imagine it was something to do with revenge.

And then, randomly, he realized he didn't know the nurses name. Well, he had to fix that. It was only polite, after all.

"I'm so sorry it took me so long," she apologized as soon as she entered
the room again. "It was difficult for me to find someone who was a part
of the maintenance crew that could turn the heat up in this place,"
she explained as she halted at the side of the bed he was laying on.

"How are you feeling? The pain medications should be wearing off
pretty soon, so I'll administer some more to you once I change your
bandages. Until then, are you sure I can't get you anything? Nothing
at all?" she inquired, cocking her head to the side curiously.

He really couldn't help but laugh at this. "No, really, I'm fine. Just be careful who you ask that question, love. Some blokes would think it was an offer for a good bonk. So be careful. You seem like a really nice bird, and I don't want you getting embarrassed. So yeah, be careful, eh?" He smiled a bit then. "Anyway, I'm fine, so you don't need to worry bout me too much. Thanks for the concern though. Always nice to be fussed over by a someone as fit as you."

She cursed inwardly as she felt the familiar heat return to her cheeks.
I mean really, how many times was she going to blush today? She
felt so childish doing so.

"I'll keep that in mind," she murmured in reply, laughing her reaction
off as best as she could. She needed to get used to his comments if
she was going to be caring for him over the next several days.

"Oh, I was planning to ask you," she began, reaching for his file that
she had set down on the table a few feet away from the bed.
"Your file says Fawkes, but it gives to information as to what
your first name is. There was no ID found on you last night,
but you repeatedly informed us of the name 'Fawkes' during
your semi-conscious spells. Do you think you could clear
things up for me?"

He grimaced a bit. "Ah. That must have looked bloody awful. Some brit with no ID, rambling after having been stabbed repeatedly. Anyway, It's Johnathan Fawkes, though I just go by John." He chuckled a bit, and she might notice that he was wincing less. "This reminds me, mind if I have your name? I can't ruddy well call ya 'Nurse' or 'Bird' or something of that sort. It's impolite, you know?"

"Yes, I suppose it is," she replied with a small chuckle, and her eyes
sparkled with amusement as she gazed at the Englishman curiously.
"Johnathan. That's a name that's easy to remember. My name is
Faylinn, but you can call me Fay for short. Faylinn seems just a bit
too formal for my taste."

Snatching the pen that rested above her ear, she quickly scribbled his name
upon the file, then stared at it with a small smile. "Well that solves one
mystery, at least," she commented, scanning through the other areas of
information before returning her eyes to rest on him.

"So Johnathan, may I ask what business you have here in America?
Have you moved here, or just visiting perhaps?"

He shook his head slightly. "Moved here about five years ago. Couldn't stay on the other side of the pond. Too many unpleasant memories. Well, only two, but it was two too many. And bloody awful ones as well." He seemed a bit put out. "Just couldn't stand bein' over there anymore, ya know?"

"Yes, I understand perfectly well. Sometimes you just...well, you just
need a change of scenery," she smiled softly, and she scribbled
once again on the clipboard before her. "I've only been working in
this hospital for three years. I was transferred by request, and I'm
much happier here," she explained, tapping the pen in her hand
rhythmically against the paper.

"But the past is the past. I'm here now and that's what matters.
I've bandaged up the wounds and moved on. Oh, speaking of
bandages, I should probably get to changing yours."

He chuckled softly, nodding. "Well, I suppose so, Fay. Heh..Fay...nice name. I really like it. Fay...well, I haven't said it yet, so I'll say it now. It's nice to meet you, Fay. Wish I could have met you under better circumstances, eh? Too bad I won't be here long." He shrugged, then shifted a bit so it was easier for her to get at his bandages.

"Haha, thank you," Fay laughed, and she took a step toward a chest of
drawers, reaching to the very top one to pull out a fresh new roll of gauze.
"It's warm enough now to do this, but I will still be as quick as I can," she
spoke up as she shut the drawer and made her way back to the bedside,
and she gently pulled away the blanket that covered him.

"We need to do this carefully, though, or we'll end up opening your
wounds again and the healing process will have to begin all over
again. Here, let me help you with your shirt. We're lucky w were
able to find another button up shirt to put you in, otherwise this
would be much more difficult," she smiled.

He nodded, and then smirked. "Well, this is interestin'. I'm layin' in a bed, being undressed by a beautiful woman. Blimey, my day is just gettin' better." He then laughed softly. "Again, ignore the things I say if it embarrasses or upsets you. It's just how I am. Though I do mean everythin' I say. I don't lie and I don't flatter. I say what I think and feel."

"I suppose on a professional level I should be revolted by your comment,"
Fay replied nonchalantly, carefully peeling away the fabric from Johnathan's
skin. "But on a more personal level, I'd rather just tell you to behave
yourself."

A small grin broke out across her face as she helped his arms out of the
shirt, then removed it from him completely and set it aside. "Now, let
me see if I can get these bandages off of you without causing you any
pain...Don't move, okay?"

He chuckled softly at her comment. "But behavin' myself is just so bloody borin'. Much more fun doin' things my way. But yeah, I can try." He laid perfectly still so she could do her work, not wanting to cause her any difficulty. He just watched her work, a small grin on his lips. The woman was gorgeous, no doubt about it. If he thought he had a chance, he'd ask her out. Then again, with the situations he got into, she'd likely see him in the hospital again. And likely soon. He seemed to have horrible luck in that.

He got hurt all the time. He wasn't sure WHY trouble seemed to follow him. It just did. Usually, when he was hurt, he just went home, rested a couple days till he healed, then went back on his way. The only time he'd come to the hospital this time was because he'd passed out in front of a restaurant. But maybe...if it meant seeing Fay again...he might just decide to come to the hospital from now on when he got hurt.

"So do you make a habit out of getting hurt like this?" she grinned
playfully, tossing the soiled bandages away and getting to work at
re-wrapping the injuries with a new, fresh set of them. "Although
I am just beginning to become acquainted with you, I can't help
but be under the impression that reckless things like these are
common for you."

She brought one of her hands gently to his shoulder and rested
the other on his back, leaning in to help him sit upright so she
could finish what she had started.

"Careful, don't sit up too quickly now. Remember what I said
about re-opening your wounds."
