Protecting the Royal [Open m/m]

Mae was a supersoilder, she was beautiful and she was the perfect killing machine.Her genes had been altered from birth to make sure she had the best of everything, she had been trained to fight in anyway and because of how her genes had been manipulated she didn't sleep, didn't feel pain but she did have a large sex drive which helped her pass the time from not sleeping. Even though Mae was a supersoilder and had better things to do she had been assigned to protect a royal man who didn't live with his family, Mae found it odd that he didn't have his own bodyguards and needed one of the worlds best killers protecting him. Arriving at the house she had been sent to Mae walked up to the front door and knocked, her stance was stiff knowing she was on duty. She was dressed in a tank top, black jeans, a pair of simple boots and a black knee length black jacket finished off the look. Mae looked at the man who opened the door, a butler, and she stepped inside when he motioned for her to go in. Looking around the entrance hall she watched as the butler wandered off to go and get the man she was to be protecting, grabbing a hair tie from her pocket Mae pulled her hair up into a tight clean bun as she waited wondering why she of all people was there for bodyguard duty.

Caleb sat at his desk reading a book, waiting for his new body guard. He'd hired one of the most expert assassins. Why? Because he needed someone that could keep up with him, actually be useful in a fight and someone with their own personality...also, just because he could. He heard the butler go open the door and simply continued reading, "Sir, she is here." She? He looked up from his novel, his blue eyes locking on the new comer. He scanned her casual attire and smirked. Well this would be interesting. He stood up, snapping his book shut and set it on his desk before walking over to her. "Thank you Jake, you may leave now, feel free to take the rest of the day if you'd like." He said in a flat tone. That was what he was known for, no emotion, at least, none displayed. "What's your name?" He asked the girl as the butler bowed himself out. He stood there casually, looking at her with a blank expression and waiting for her response.

Mae looked at the man who the butler went to talk with, raising an eyebrow when he walked over to her. Sweeping her eyes over him quickly Mae stood perfectly still with her back straight as if she was waiting for a command of some kind, "My name is Mae" she said softly. Locking her eyes on his Mae tilted her head a little after she had spoken "And what is your name?" she asked, "It would be good to know the name of the person who asked for me to protect them" Mae added as her posture relaxed a little as she slid her hands into the pocket of her jacket. She hadn't been told anything about the man she would be protecting and was curious about why she was there and not off fighting as she was made to do.

He smirked, "My name is Caleb." His voice was smooth, almost seductive despite being monotone. He waved for her to sit in any of the chairs in his room, while take his own seat in front of the fireplace. "I don't doubt you have many questions, ask them now freely and I'll answer what I can." He said. He pulled his book out again and began reading, all the while keeping an eye on her, watching to see what Mae would do. He was looking for something very specific in this body guard/assassin. If she didn't pass his series of tests he would simply send her back.

Mae watched him carefully making sure to take in all of his simple body movements, she of course didn't miss his almost seductive tone. If she hadn't been on duty Mae most likely would have just grabbed his hand and found the nearest bedroom to kill sometime, but she was on duty and so she was going to be professional. Watching as he sat down in front of the fireplace Mae sat down in a chair where she could easily see him and keep an eye on the rest of the room and the doorway, even though she seemed relaxed in the chair Mae's body language said she was ready to spring into action at a moments notice. "My first question, is of course, an obvious one" Mae started as she kept her eyes locked on him as he read his book, "Why do you need a killer like me protecting you?" she asked raising an eyebrow wondering what his reply would be.

"Of course. Well I don't need you per say. However, I wanted someone competent, and at least as smart as I was. I wanted someone who could separate work from play, and know when they could do both. I needed someone who can handle themselves in a fight or duel should one happen. I'm not the King yet, but my father has made quite a few enemies, and number of them are quite powerful. The biggest reason however, is I need just one person I can trust. I don't like a whole lot of people, nor do I trust a whole lot of them. Also you aren't someone my father has power over, you'll be listening to me and me alone, and occasionally your own judgement." He paused, debating whether or not to add something, before continuing, "Also, for the most part you may be as casual with me as you like, there are very few situations where I will command absolute compliance. We will need to become as close as two friends that have grown up together since child hood. Partners in a sense. Any problems or any other questions?" He asked, noting her posture from the corner of his eye and continuing to read his book with one hand while resting his head on his fist of the other.

Mae frowned a little as she listened to Caleb speak, once he had finished Mae sighed a little as she leaned back in the chair more comfortably. Shaking her head a little Mae looked up at the ceiling a little, this was not at all what she was made for. Mae had been made for killing not playing nice with a prince, "So, basically, you just happened to ask for someone who was made for fighting and killing just to pretty much be something you can show off to scare people is someone threatening comes knocking?" she asked raising a brow. Massaging the bridge of her nose a little Mae shook her head slightly, this felt more like punishment than work and the situation was just getting more an more confusing to her. Crossing one of her legs over the other Mae continued to watch Caleb carefully, "And how do you know that I don't also work for your father?" Mae asked giving a small smirk as she tried to think through everything he had told her.

Caleb looked to her, his dull expression never wavering, "To answer your first question, no not at all. The enemies my father has made all try to attack him by taking his heir, and since my father hates it when people put their fingers on or near something he thinks is his, he gets touchy. While I can take care of myself, fighting my fathers war on my own gets tiring and eventually being alone all the time would be my downfall. To answer your second question, if you were actually working for my father you wouldn't have asked me that question. I know how my father thinks of me and thus, he would tell you to be completely compliant and not ask any questions, but to just do as I say. He's done this before." He looked from his book to her, "In the off chance that I'm wrong and you are working for my father, it won't end well for either of us." He went back to his book, turning the page with his thumb. "If you really don't want this job that pays well and will give you plenty of opportunities to kill and get into fights, then leave. However, to answer a question you haven't asked is I plan on taking my father's throne sooner than later, but I need the surrounding cities under his rule to back me. Most of them have no problem with me, but others think I am just like my father." His voice darkened slightly with that statement, where most would not have even noticed, "In any case those will be the missions where the enemies of my father will try to make their petty kidnapping attempts or assassinations." His voice was back to normal and despite the dull tone, he was being completely honest.

Mae sat quietly as Caleb spoke, as soon as he finished a soft laugh escaped her as if she found everything he had said slightly amusing. "Well, if you plan on taking his throne sooner rather than later I guess I better get myself with acquainted with the layout of your home and get to protecting you rather than sitting here" she said as she got to her feet, Mae wasn't very good at sitting still for long periods of time. "I'll leave you to read your book and show myself around" Mae said with a small nod of her head before she stepped out of the room and began walking around so she could quickly get to know the layout so she knew there was nowhere people could hide.

Caleb smirked and wondered if she knew the layout would change on her. He continued to read his book before moving to his desk and writing her name down. She passed the first set of tests. He wanted to see what she had as far as passing the next set. He looked around his room and then went to his closet, pulling out one of his favored weapons, bladed tonfa. He put on a cloak of sorts and hid them before going out on his patrol.
