Let sleeping Dogs lie [Red only]

"This seems... mean." Mordered scowled, walking with the attendant down the corridor.

"I assure you, they've all been given the best of care. It's simply the best way to deal with repeat offenders. Besides, how else do you expect people to get a pet now-a-days? Breeders have been outlawed for ages, and the odds of picking up a stray are slim to none." he reasoned.

"But... these were people."

"Who behaved like animals." the man said simply, offering her a small smile. "Besides, it's been cleared with the past 6 Prime Ministers." he cleared his thought, seeing the woman continue to scowl at him. "In any case, all of our for adoption companians have passed extensive rehabilitation."

"And what happens if it bites?"

"Well, they're put down of course. They know the rules."

The man paused at a door and held it open for the young lady. "You did say a dog, correct?"

"Yes." she frowned, stepping past him. "Where I'm from the pound is really a pound-- you know. of Naturally occurring animals."

"Well, we can't all be stuck in the dark ages, miss." the man responded with a smile. "Now then, feel free to have a look around. Any that catch your eye, just let me know."

Mordered looked back to the hallway, this one lined with cells. Cages really. She sighed and watched the man leave before turning her attention back to the animals. "There's no way I could keep a human as a pet." she grumbled, feeling an eerie chill run up her spine.

[If you didnt pick up on it I'm thinking shes looking to adopt a dog. pretty much how it works in this world-- or city even-- is that its the equivalent of taking an inmate out and agreeing to be their parole officer. If the inmate is never adopted, the sentence turns into a life sentence. if they are adopted and behave well for 5 years, the 'owner' can choose to have the inmate released- turned back into a human-- or returned to the pound in exchange for another. I'm thinking they can speak, and maybe while adopted out once a month may turn human again. okay? oooor no?]

The wolf was sitting in his cage and he looked over at the girl and tried to get her attention. She seemed like the best person to be adopted out to. He had been in the pound for quite a while and he had not been chosen once. He started thumping his tail on the floor of his cage to get her to come over and have a look at him, and hopefully decide to take him.

A few different inmates tried to get her attention before she finally felt she had had enough. She turned on her heel to leave, pausing only to stare for a moment at the wolf in the cage closest to the door. "Dog. wolf. Close enough, right?" she frowned, looking back down the hallway. She shook her head and stepped out.

A few minutes later, she returned with the attendant. "I'm glad you've decided to at least attempt the adoption, miss. Naturally if you feel unsafe for any reason you may bring him back and we'll take care of it from there."

"I'm sure you would..." she frowned, crossing her arms as she watched the squat man fumble with the key and lock before pulling the cage door open to the wolves cell.

"I'll give you two a few moments to get acquainted..." he wrote down a number off of the wall. "I'll be right back."

Mordered frowned, looking back to the wolf, feeling stupid for doing so. "Well, at least you don't have to sit here any more. I'm sure a sofa would be a welcome change for you as opposed to the floor, huh?"

She spoke, of course not expecting a reply.

From the way she was dressed, she came from one of the Science cities to the west. Her accent didn't help her seem any less foreign either.

The wolf nodded and he walked out of the cage and sat down at her feet. "You know how long I have been stuck inside that cramped thing they call a cage?" he said, taking in her features. He hoped that they would be a good match for one another. "So, where are you from?" he said, as he glanced down at the door that lead into the reception part of the pound. Soon he would be free of his horrible place and would soon be on his way to his new home with his new owner.

She stared for a moment, her mouth slightly agape.

"You.... still have human speech..." she sounded stunned, though looked rather unphased. "I'm from Corbel." she answered, shifting awkwardly where she stood. This would make walking the dog very awkward as far as she was concerned.

"What did you do to end up here?"

Grey cleared his throat and spoke eloquently. "Well, I robbed people and one night, shot a man who tried to defend his home. The police found me a week later hiding out in my sister's flat. It was the end of my human life as I knew it," he looked a bit sad. "And the next thing you know, I was turned into a wolf and put in this place. Now you have the chance to turn me good again," he looked up at her and his tail wagged, hoping she would understand he wanted to change.

She eyed him sceptically, glancing down to the small watch on the inside of her wrist. "Between you and me-- if you bite me or my jewellery goes missing you're getting neutered." she warned, tapping her foot slightly.

Her neighbour had convinced her to get a dog, suggesting it might help her come out of her shell a bit more, introduce her a bit more readily to magic. She hadn't quite expected this when she agreed to a pet.

The short man from earlier returned, a clipboard hanging off of his hip with another in his hands. "Al'ight, Ms. Mordered, just sign here, here, and here and he will be released into your custody."

"And just what is it I'm signing?"

"Adoption forms, standard for everyone miss. Just saying you understand the risks and responsibilities."

Mordred took the pen from him, glancing back to the wolf beside her. "... At the very least, this should make life interesting." she sighed, signing her name where he indicated.

In return the man handed her a short stack of papers. "Just his registration and ID tags-- you'll find them taped to page 6."

"Thanks." she flipped through the pages. "Well then, let's go-- Grey."

Grey nodded and he trotted alongside her. "So, if you don't mind me asking, where do you live exactly?" he said, looking up at her, as she waded through the paperwork. "And uh, where will I be sleeping?" he said, hoping his new accommodation would be a lot more comfortable than his cage in the pound. "Also, how will I get exercise?" he followed her outside into the fresh air and to her car. "I guess I'm riding in the back then?" he said with a smirk on his muzzle.

"Alright, enough questions for the moment. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I'm going home with a wolf, let alone one who speaks English." She opened the front passenger door. Her 'car' was more of a jeep, antique plates on it, rubber wheels and all. "Hop in and I'll buckle you in." she instructed, folding the papers up.

On the floor of the jeep were books and papers, most tied up with twine and in neat piles, though a few seemed to have broken free and lay sprawled half under the seat. A coffee cup sat cold in a holder by the steering wheel with a green and blue tassel hanging off the rear-view mirror. Green tassels meant someone finished a degree in the Sciences, while a blue tassle meant you had earned some sort of trade degree.

Judging by the books on the floor and by her age, she was either in for her masters degree or else in research of some sort.

After getting Grey steeled in she climbed into the drivers seat and started up the old relic, pulling out onto the highways. Most people took the rails or walked, so the streets were fairly clear.

"So," she glanced over as she drove. "I live just outside the city. It's a duplex, and we're in the top floor, so you'll have the stairs each time you need to go. There's plenty of room to run around outside, and provided you don't trail in any ticks or fleas you can sleep on the sofa or recliner. Considering you were a human man, I'm going to have to say no to letting you in my bed-- just on sheer principle."

She was looking back to the road again. At least she didn't have to worry about housebreaking him.

Grey nodded. "So I can sleep on the floor of your room?" he said, looking out at the scenery. "Is your apartment spacious? I love having a lot of room," he loved the breeze on his fur and knew that the right person had chosen to adopt him as their pet. This would, hopefully, be the start of a good relationship between the pair of them.

"If you want to, by all means." she shrugged. "The place is open enough, if only because I don't own much but the essentials in life. "Just don't instigate the land lord. He's an ornery old man who doesn't much like me..." She glanced at the watch on the inside of her wrist.

She pulled off the main road and looked over to the wolf out of the corner of her eye. "I take it kibble won't satisfy you. We'll need to make a stop by the grocer before we head home."

Grey nodded. "Any sort of human food is okay with me. I can eat anything," he said giving her a smirk as he saw the grocery store up ahead. It wasn't too busy, and this area looked really pretty and picturesque. "Will you be long?" he asked. "I'd really like to get to your place and explore it for a bit," he sat down in the passengers' seat and wagged his tail patiently.

"You're funny, fuzzy." She scoffed, climbing out of the Jeep. She walked around front ot the passenger door, opening it with a hand on her hip. "There's no way I would be able to guess what size collar you would need. That aside, being sprung from jail, you ought to choose your own first meal."

She waited for him to jump down before closing the door with a 'thud'. She knew the owner of the store, and as such wasn't at all worried about walking in with the large wolf. If anything, she hoped the hand-been man's presence would finally make the man inside, Michael, lay off of her. One only had enough patience to tell a man 'no' so many times...
