The Hunt Begins

In the middle of a forested are a red and green vortex of power appeared causing a massive wave of pure mana to erupt from it into the surrounding wilderness, causing many of the animals in the vicinity to flee from the power. The vortex formed into a doorway like structure and out of it stepped a tall individual dressed all in black a cloak and hood hiding his face except his eyes. A longsword that glowed a soft rainbow of colors was on his waist.

Valandil turned around and dissipated the vortex of power.

"I need to learn to make my entrance a little less dramatic," he whispered to himself.

He turned to his surroundings, he was still new at this whole planeswalking thing and was very unsure of how to control the power that he had just recently discovered he had. He didn't know what plane he ended up on but that was okay he was on a hunt and a hunt required patience and being over 100 years old Valandil had a lot of patience. He let the other side of himself surface as it increased his senses to a lot more then his normal senses taking in every sound and smell that was within the closes vicinity. After he was satisfied that their was nothing to dangerous around him he leaned against a tree and sank to the ground planeswalking was exhausting and even though he had been able to do it with little strain on his physical self his magical self was worn out.

After a quick breather he decided that it was time to find a place to rest for the night he would start his answer hunting in the morning he wanted to find out as much as he could about Boros and increase his own spell power before he attacked his enemy. If it just so happened that he got to kill a few rogue monstrosities during the journey all the better.

It didn't take long and he found a cave that would be as good as any for shelter for the night. He gathered some wood and created a flame with a quick spell, at least he had enough energy for that. He put his back against the cave facing the entrance making sure his senses stayed on full alert he was in a new place who knew what kind of creatures or beings were here.

He quietly ate some dried meat for supper and then settled in for a night of alertness and caution.

It was around midnight that the sound of hooves on stone reached him. Slow and steady, they sounded like they were coming form the left of the cave. Naturally, it didn't take too long to see the source of the sound. A woman, leading a horse behind her walked in the darkness. She was humming as she walked, making sure her horse took care not to step wrong as she lead it.

She looked up, tossing her red hair over her shoulder and fell silent. She'd seen the glow of the fire and had hoped to find a home, rather than a camp site.

On her hip she wore a sword, much smaller than man in the shadows of the fire. "Just passing through." she announced, seeing him eye her. There was no point in causing trouble.

Still, it was typically odd for someone to travel at night, much less a woman alone. She clicked at her horse, urging the stallion on .

[Eh. I'm thinking shes a run away of some sort >>;]

As the sound reached Valandil the summoning spell already left him. Two small orbs of green mana appeared in his hands before the women was in eye sight and he summoned to young wolves to hide in the shadows of the cave in case the women wanted to start trouble, these wolves weren't very strong but they had one really interesting ability that hopefully wouldn't need to be used.

When the wolves were hidden Valandil gently laid his hand on his sword and waited for the hoof beats to come closer, when he caught sight of the women and her horse he relaxed slightly. He took his hand off his sword and waited to see what would happen. He was very leary of anyone and everyone to many people have turned on him in the past century and he had lost all trust in anyone.

He heard her shout out that he she was just passing through which eased his tension a little more. He waved his hand unsummoning one of the wolves but keeping the other hidden in the shadows just in case.

Valandil decided that this would be someone he might be able to gain a little information from he wrapped his cloak around him and stood up at his full 6' height and walked to the entrance of his cave the wolf keeping just out of sight but within lunge range if necessary.

"I was wondering," Valandil began his voice clearing a very obvious foreign accent, "if you could tell me where this is?"

The woman scowled at him. "You're joking..." she looked him up and down. He didn't seem to be dressed like one of the locals... And he sounded odd too.

"You're in Axem." she said frowning. "And if you had any sense in you you would be leaving Axem the same way you got here." She paused, putting a hand on her horses neck to stop him. "Or don't you know what's going on here?"

She raised an eyebrow at him. "Axem is about to go into a civil war." she said, supplying him with the unasked for information. "It isn't one you want to get pulled into, I can tell you that much. And so long as you've got a sword- you will be, so long as you stay."

Valandil mentally sighed so he planewalked into a place going to war just his luck. He mentally thought about getting out of there just like the women told him to, but he needed information and information wasn't going to come if he didn't hunt it down.

"Thank you," he said it forced politeness, "the affairs of this world have little concern to me I am only here for information and that is it."

Valandil turned and waved his hand as the other wolf vanished into green mana.

"This cave is big enough if you want to spend the night," Valandil stated not feeling threatened by this women.

He returned to his spot by the fire and mentally thought of where he would be able to start gathering the information he needed to find Boros. His best bet was finding vampires in this realm and forcing the information out of them, this caused him to smirk he did enjoy making vampires talk.

The woman stayed where she was, frowning at him. "... Look, typically, I wouldn't say anything, but seeing as how you aren't from here..." she reached into her cloak and pulled out a glass bottle, rolling it carefully over to him. "You ought to put out that fire before you attract one of those leeches." She said, looking over her shoulder, as if expecting something to show up.

She hadn't lied. it was going to be a massive civil war. Vampires verses humans.

Valandil perked his ears at the word leeches and the context she used it, he hasn't been nearly as many places as some of the other demi walkers that were throughout the multiverse but he knew from personal experience that could only mean one thing.

"Are you talking vampires?" Valandil's voice snarled at the final word, one thing he hated more then anything else was Vampires.

Finally he might get a lead if Vampires were progressing a civil war then that could mean they have something or someone who is pushing them to do that, of course he might be over thinking this and grasping at straws but it was at least a hint.

He wanted more information so to make sure she stayed a little longer he killed the fire.

"Tell me about this war?" Valandil stated, he was not one to beat around the bush.

She pursed her lips, looking to her horse before leading him to the edge of the cave, tying him up. "I only know as much as the next person." she said, though it didn't sound very convincing.

"One of the Kings sons was turned a while back, and so instead of doing what should have been down- the fool agreed to let him be an ambassador with them, to try and create peace. Except you cant make peace with something that sees you as it's primary food source."

She gave a sharp tug against the rope on her horse to make sure it was secure.

"When the King passed away last month, the brothers began to fight. It was the bitten brother who was youngest, but now he's claiming his elder brother isnt fit to rule. That he knows both sides of the coin, and as someone who's been human his whole life, he doesn't." she said and walked over, sitting down. "Pretty much it's a war for succession, but it's also humans verses vampires- who've had the past ten years to grow in strength and numbers because of a senile kings dream of peace."

Valandil scoffed, "I have dealt with Vampires much of my long life and peace is not high on there list of things to achieve ever."

So Valandil had stumbled into a war for succession that just happened to be a vampires vs humans fight. It wasn't nearly the information he wanted to hear but it was something to start on. He stroked his chin a little and thought for a minute, he would have to find some of the vampires themselves to get more information out of them.

"Do you know where the vampires nest, or at least one of their nest are?" Valandil needed to go hunting, he wouldn't tonight but if he could get a grasp on where they were he could hunt them down the next day and take them out and hopefully claw some information out of the Vampires.

She frowned. ".... You think you can just walk into one of their homes hacking and slicing?" she asked doubtfully. "They've got magic that'll turn you inside out as soon as look at you you know." she said, resting her elbow on her knee.

She shrugged and went on. "It's your neck... The closest nest is where I just came from. South in I'nta." She said. "It's about two days away on horseback, but on foot, you've got a good hike ahead of you."

Vampires with magic are never good things even for someone as experienced in vampire hunting as he was, he really didn't like the kind of magic that they used it was usually black and blue in color which happened to be his enemy colors.

"What can you tell me of the vampires of this world?" he asked wanting to gather all the information he could before setting out, "do they usually make tight knit groups or are they usually a bunch of savage tribe like sentiments?"

Families were tough especially if they were old ones, tribal vampires are a little less dangerous and easier to deal with. The hike wasn't a problem he could just wolf out and cover the distance in a half a day probably, double edged swords as they are have some good applications even if they get out shone by the negative.

"Are you kidding? Tribal?" she laughed. "No. Sorry, those days are long past. They're just as if not more sophisticated as humans." she said simply."Granted they keep separate from humans unless it's dinner time--" she frowned. "What are you looking for anyway?" she asked suspiciously.

So they were family groups, that would make things a little more difficult but still not impossible. He mentally went through coming up with a plan on how he was going to make it into the nest and slay as many as he could keeping a few so he can "claw" information out of them.

He heard her question and glared figures, "Information."

He would have to probably tear through some of the minor minions until he got to the vampires who had the information that he needed and wanted. That thought brought smirk to his lips though hidden under his hood the women wouldn't notice.

"Anything else you can tell me about the vampires?" he asked coming back to the hear and now.

She eyed him for a minute or two before he asked if she had any more information. "Actually, i do." she said. "But now it's your turn to answer some questions." She said uncrossing her legs. "You really feel like running in and killing those leeches?" she asked.

Depending on his answer, and if he was willing to take her along for the ride, she could give him plenty of information.

Valandil smirked, "I feel like I am going to do it and for the most part enjoy it, they are the scum of the underworld and take advantage of things. I was raised to despise them and have dedicated my life to hunting them down and executing as many as I can before I am either killed or die of old age...and I have a long life ahead of me."

He hated vampires, he hated zombies, he hated ghosts, he hated everything that was dead once and has once more come to walk the material plane he would send them back to the grave and he would do it with the controlled fury he has taken years to master.

A wolf never lets prey go and his prey was that of the undead and reanimated.

"And you think you can win." she sounded skeptical. "Has anyone told you lately, you're insane." she stated in a matter of fact tone. "They'll rip your thought out-- if you're lucky. Or they just might add you to the stock pile." she frowned. "I just got out of the blood pits, and I'm telling you without a doubt, you cant hope to take them down. Especially alone."

Valandil chuckled beside himself, "Yeah I have been called insane, I have been called monster, I have been called demon...most of those who did ended up in a lot of pain."

She was right on one point he couldn't do it alone but in all honest he was never alone he had the power to summon things from other worlds of existence, he might not of been as skilled as some of the other walkers that were around here but his wolf and werewolf allies were some of the strongest of his home plane. He usually avoided the werewolf ones since they were harder to control but he still had the option.

"I will survive and I will kill the entire nest except for those who have the most information for me," Valandil came out of his thoughts. He noticed a look in her eyes, he wasn't the best person at reading people since many of the people he has tried to read have turned out to be nothing like he thought they were, "You want to destroy them too don't you?"

"I think anyone who isn't one ought to want to." she said in a matter of fact tone.

She thought for a moment before looking to her horse. Anywhere but the man across from her was fine with her. "If you want to get to the host of the clan, you can do that easily enough and avoid all the pee-ons by going to the city hall." she said. "During the day they've got living statues to protect them, but the mans an ego maniac. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard."

Valandil nodded his head, "Good to know, still might take out the pee ons for the simple fact they are what they are."

So a big wig was located in a town hall guarded by nothing but living statues, perfect prey for him. Valandil had to stop himself from howling in delight, he felt the blood lust of the wolf raise up in him and closed his eyes to push it back down so he wouldn't lose control and accidentally kill the women who was being helpful..for now anyway he was sure that as soon as she found out what he was on both accounts she would turn against him like so many others have.

"Can you take me there?" he asked.

"Well, yes..." She frowned. "I can, but you might want to take a detour." she said. "There's a group I can bring you to who would be happy to join you."

Valandil shook his head, "The less people involved the better."

He knew that he would probably lose control and he didn't want to hurt the innocent when his rampage would happen, he was already risking this womens life but what does the life of one women mean to him...he couldn't start thinking like that he wouldn't be any better then those he hunted.

"Lead me there and if you wish to go get those others you can, I will probably be finished by the time they come but I may not depending on the strength of the family," Valandil finished, "will you help me?"

She nodded. "Helping you helps myself." she pointed out. "I've only got one horse though. We'll be able to make it to the closest town from here on foot in about a day, form there we can make it in no time."

"Just take me straight there, horses don't always seem to be to comfortable around me," Valandil stated. Ever since he turned to a werewolf very few animals enjoyed his company. About the only ones were Wolves which is why he usually kept to just summoning them as opposed to summoning anything else and it flipping out because he was what he was.

"For now we sleep and we leave in the morning," Valandil nodded as he got up from his seat and walked to the entrance to the cave, red mana gathered in his hand as he shaped the stone and earth at the entrance into a door/wall so from the outside it didn't look like there was a cave there.

"That should hopefully deter anything that we don't want visiting," he stated even though part of him wanted to leave the cave wide open and fire blazing just to draw some attention and maybe a little bloodshed....control Valandil.

Valandil moved to a rock and climbed on top of it he quickly crossed his legs and focused straight ahead of him. As an elf he didn't need to actually sleep he just needed to mediate for six hours he was getting ready to do just that.
