All he had was a name. That was all he could remember. Just his own name.
Alex.
He didn’t have a past. No memories to tie him to the world and give it meaning. More importantly, he had no recollection of how he’d come to be lying in a hospital bed, his body heavily bandaged, and with a head so very empty. It was like being in a dream, except this reality was no dream and it was certainly not something he was going to wake up from.
In and out of consciousness, he went back and forth. Occasionally he would catch snippets of conversation from the nurses and doctors, who did not realize he could hear them.
“Severe head trauma...”
“Will have to relearn everything...”
“...no one to see him, or claim him as kin.”
“Completely alone..”
And worst of all, “Might have been kinder to let him die...”
Yet, against all odds he seemed to be recovering. He was awake, able to talk and function normally, and surprisingly he was able to write and write well. He just couldn’t remember anything from before the white washed walls of the hospital, which he quickly realized was more a Sanatorium then anything else. He was in a place where people went in because there was no real hope they would ever be fit enough to leave. With that knowledge all hope should have deserted him.
Yet, he still maintained a semblance of happiness in the form of a single girl who had first started talking to him like he was actually a human being. She was the one who had forced the others to see he wasn’t useless. That he could talk when he wanted, that he could read and write, and that other than his lack of memory, he was rather normal. Though he was bedridden with many of his other still healing wounds, her visits never failed to rouse him and force him to at least try and be part of the world.
Hearing soft footfalls coming from the down the hallway he put aside his notebook that he had been attempting to write in. A past time that was supposed to be beneficial in returning his memory to him. He always could recognize the sound of her steps, and so he turned his head toward the door, waiting expectantly to see her face come around the corner.
((So you can be a nurse, a doctor, or even another patient if you like. All I ask is that you are female. Not quite sure where this one will go. Its more of a create as a you go type of rp.))
