"Welcome." a deep voice boomed. "Youve joined the Masters Survival Virtual Reality Game. Before we continue, state your name..."

This was how the game was run. Max had already told her about it. That she had chosen 'Kaiden' as he screen name, and gone with the Yukiko. The Game: MS-VRG, had become quite the craze among girl gamers, and even males were starting to play.

"Name accepted. Choose your Partner." the voice said. The surroundings shifted, four incredibly detailed hounds appeared a few yards away.

"Your choices:
kitsune- Summer, fire element
cerberus- August, anitmatter element
Yukio- Winter, ice element
Undihound- Spring, earth/plant element

You may choose one hound. Below is a brief biography of each. Choose wisely- you can not change your character later..."

The hounds all sat at attention, the 'Yukiko' as the computer called it a bright silver beast, roughly waist high while on all fours. Its paws were tremendous and its long wavy hair made it resemble Lassy, it it weren't for the ears being slightly oversized- like a foxes.
"A Yukiko. Best suited or tundras, equipped with ice attacks. mountable with a swift trot. This hound has the best hearing and the highest magical limit out of all the others."

The Undihound looked more like a strange griffin than a K9. it had long hair that upon closer inspection was moss and veins. it had bright green eyes and a whip like tail with talons instead of paws.
"The Undinehound is a gifted swimmer accompanied with remarkable climbing abilities making forests its home turf. It is gifted with the ability to use plants as weapons. This hound has the best reflexes and vision out of all the others."

The kitsune was typical of its name. A gorgeous fireglow color with nine tails and dazzling blue eyes. It was just slightly smaller than the Yukiko though its sleek look seemed some how misplaced.
"A kitsune. A shape-shifting creature with the ability to wield fire. It houses many environments and is the swiftest and most cunning of all the breeds."

Finaly was the Cerberus, by far the largest by sight, the three heads already snapping at eachother, drooling onto the floor. sitting down it came to shoulder height.
"A Hell hound, or Cerberus. Mountable with the ability to climb steep slopes. It has the abilities of antimatter or death,. Though it is by far the slowest and hardest hound to train it has the most powerful attack."

The four hounds all sat, waiting to be chosen, ears perked and tails wagging.

"Chose your partner, then state the name you would like to give your pet." the voice instructed.

Max sighed, waiting outside of the Newbi Pub, where all new characters started out and were tough the basics of the Game.

He had bright silver hair and dark skin, his eyes an mismatching purple hue, dressed in light leather armor with a sword upon his back. By his side was a Yukiko, this one more purple-silver than white, a pair of bags tied around its neck.

"Sh should be about ready by now..." he complained looking to his hound, pleased to see the fox still holding the sign with their area code on it. That would be how his friend would spot and recognize her in the game...

Max looked over and nearly laughed. "Nice outfit." he said, pulling the sign from his Yukiko's mouth. He grinned back to his friend and dropped the sign- allow it to vanish before hitting the ground as he discarded it. "I should have known you would pick that basic stock." he commented.

He grinned, looking down at her slightly. "So. What do you think?" he asked spinning around once, jumping.

In real life Max was confined to a wheelchair. He had been since middle school when he was in a car accident with his parents. having been on the track team, he had really taken the disability hard. When the virtual reality game came out, it had been his turning point, finally snapping out of his nearly 5 year long depression.

His virtual pet watched him curiously, one ear up and the other lazily flopping down.

"Hell hounds are fine," Max, or rather--- Kaiden in this world-- informed Rubi. "In fact, it's usually good to have one person with each kind of hound in a party before you take on any higher level dungeons." he commented.

Kaiden's Yukiko huffed before curling up near his feet, laying down while he spoke. each hound had it's own AI programed into it's creation and thus it's own personality.

Around them was a strange collection of people in various outfits, ranging from the lolita or steampunk, to the more fantasy attire Kaiden himself was in. Stained leathers and cloth.

"Anyway, we're on the Alpha server right now. Once you hit level 20 or so you should be alright going to Beta so long as you have a strong party. I only just got access to Charlie-- but you need a request from a guild head to get in, plus you need to be over level 40." he explained the basics. "Here, you use four key words to create whatever dungeon you want. there's way too many combination's to do them all. Each word list has 20 words, and there're four lists consecutively. Its something like 80 factoral."

He knelt down and took one of the bags off of his Yukiko's neck, handing it to Rubi. "Here." he said. "It's got some basic healing potions in it, and a few small tools you might need. Your kitsune should be able to use this bag no problem."

Something chimed.

Apparently it had been a friend request being sent to Rubi. Noone else seemed to notice it.

"Screen Name: Asani DeLeathe has sent you a new request." floated transparently in front of her.
